Schools Workshops

BandBazi runs a diverse educational outreach programme throughout the year teaching a range of theatrical skills that link to your teaching of the National Curriculum or FE course work. We strive to increase access to theatre for all.

Workshops are facilitated by experienced theatre and circus professionals with full CRB checks. Proof of our public liability insurance and copies of our health and safety or child protection policies, as well as risk assessments, are available on request.

Unique selling points:

  • A chance for students to work with professional performers
  • Participants can learn aerial or ground based circus skills
  • Facilitates exploration of circus theatre as a genre
  • Workshops can combine aerial skills with dramatic improvisation or dance/ movement
  • Compliments the National Curriculum in a unique way

We follow a structured format or can adopt a flexible approach. These can be one-off introductory sessions or a programme of ongoing work. All participants are encouraged to reflect on their learning and to evaluate the success of the workshop.

Workshops can cover: trapeze, creative writing, circus skills, movement and physical theatre, dramatic improvisation and storytelling. We work with all ages and abilities throughout the Key Stages. All workshops promote inclusion – we are committed to providing unique learning opportunities for all participants.

INSET sessions for educational staff are also available.

Testimonials

“Bandbazi are skilled at empowering young people to work together on difficult issues. The film See it! Say it! Stop it! that the CYPT commissioned Bandbazi to make had had positive feedback and will further develop understanding of the impact of racism.”
Sam Beal, Healthy Schools Team Manager, Brighton and Hove City Council

"Bandbazi have worked with a number of young people from our school through their Youth Circus Theatre.  The all-inclusiveness of the group means that students who have participated feel empowered by the skills they have learnt.  Philippa and the other teachers are excellent at what they do as they really understand how to make each young person feel good about themselves whether it's through teaching them Poi or trapeze skills.”
Libby Danahar, Deputy Head of Year 7, Dorothy Stringer School
