All circus workshops - Saturday classes and group bookings
What do I need to wear?
For aerial circus wear something comfortable and stretchy but not too loose. We generally advise wearing leggings or jogging bottoms with a tight fitted top or leotard. We also recommend wearing layers and bringing socks or leg warmers. You will work in bare feet and all jewellery must be taken off.
For ground based circus you can wear anything you like as long as you are comfortable and can lift your arms above your head.
Is there a safety net?
No, safety nets are sometimes used for flying trapeze. We teach static trapeze, silks, rope and hoop. We use safety mats under all our equipment.
Where are workshops held?
All our Saturday workshops are held at Brighton Youth Centre. As are most of our group workshop bookings (unless otherwise stated in the booking confirmation). Brighton Youth Centre is located at: 64 Edward St, Brighton, BN2 0JR
We Subcribe to Brighton & Hove City Council's Sustainability Policy to reduce the enviromental impact of our activities. Therefore we promote walking, cycling and the use of public transport when travelling to our sessions.
You can get a number of buses to Brighton Youth Centre. Including the 1, 1a; 7; 23. Please go to http://www.buses.co.uk/servicelisting.shtml for more information.
We are also a short walk from the Old Steine where the 5, 5a and 5b buses stop.
Is there parking at Brighton Youth Centre?
There is metered parking in the streets nearby but no parking available at Brighton Youth Centre.
The car parks that surround the Youth Centre are strictly for residents of the nearby apartment blocks and must not be used.
Picking children up from our workshops: Pavements need to be kept clear, and residents spaces should not be used around the back of the building. Parents picking up/dropping off can pull into the first car park on the left as you enter Grosvenor Road as this is mainly used by AMEX staff and therefore empty at weekends and evenings.
Aerial Circus Classes for Adults
Do I need to book a place on the session?
Yes, our aerial circus sessions for adults are all run as courses. Courses are run in blocks of 5 or 6 weeks. Fees for courses are payable in advance of the first session of the term. All details of our courses are available on our Adult Aerial Circus Classes page.
I can’t make it to every session of my course, can I just pay for the sessions I attend?
All courses must be paid for in advance, we don’t offer reductions for missed sessions. Occasionally we can offer you a space in another session so that you can make up your missed session. Please ask your instructor if you would like to do this and we will see if we can find a space for you.
I've never tried aerial circus before, what can I expect?
Our beginners, elementary and improver sessions always start with a structured warm-up, which will consist of yoga based stretching and some core conditioning work. We then move onto aerial conditioning; you will use the aerial circus equipment to condition the muscles needed for aerial circus. The rest of the session is devoted to repertoire development - learning new moves and transitions on various pieces of aerial circus equipment. We teach a variety of skills and tailor the session to abilities of the people in the group that day. You may have the opportunity to try static trapeze, silks, silks knot/hammock, rope and aerial hoop.
I'm worried that I am not fit/strong/flexible enough to do aerial circus. Will everyone else in the class be really experienced/fit/superhuman?
The participants that attend our classes are all different and have various levels of ability, strength, flexibility and fitness. Just remember that everyone starts somewhere and most people feel a bit nervous on their first session. Our sessions are aimed at being fun and creative as well as being a great work-out!
I've been to a few sessions at another aerial circus training centre. I would like to attend your sessions but I am not sure what level I am. Which session should I attend?
Please send us an email listing your previous experience and we will try to find the right session for you.
How do I pay for my session?
Courses can be paid for online via our Adult Aerial Circus page.
Drop-in classes can be paid for on the day in cash or by cheque.
